The European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) will be organising its annual international conference in Helsinki 15–17 May 2020. The Finnish Association of Vision and Eyecare (NÄE ry) will be hosting the EAOO Helsinki2020 event. The conference brings together key stakeholders from across Europe to share and discuss the latest research and best practice relating to optometry, dispensing optics, optics and vision science.
The Academy conference takes place as part of the regular joint spring meeting with the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) and it attracts delegates with diverse interests and from a range of clinical, research and educational backgrounds.
The event comprises of:
- Lectures/short presentations
- Poster presentations
- Clinical skills workshops
- Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
- Networking opportunities
The main theme of the event is the future of optometry and optometrists. The focus is on “Eye Health for All – Emerging Technologies in Eye Care”. The event program is published – note that changes are still possible. Updates are made continually to the program.

What is EAOO?
Established in 2009, the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) is an umbrella organisation for research and training in the field of vision within the European Union. The purpose of the organisation is to advocate for the audibility of the shared voice of professionals in the field of optometry and optics, develop and support the foundations for field-related research and promote the continuous development of professional expertise among optometrists, opticians and other professionals in the field of vision and eyecare around Europe.
